
Jack Convery
Winner of the 1973 United Artists best banjoist of Northern California contest, having performed and worked with such music legends as Bing Crosby and Perry Como, and band director of the S.F. 49ers band since 1987, Jack Convery has been hailed as “the best banjoist in the NFL.” A singer and guitarist as well, his repertoire of lively material includes timeless jazz classics, novelty show stoppers and country, pop, and bluegrass standards arranged for the banjo.
His success as an entertainer has brought him into the entertainment booking business. Starting the Entertainment Line agency in 1987, Jack has performed for and provided entertainment for numerous corporations, county fairs, and public events, as well as working with such stars as Ella Fitzgerald, Willie Nelson, The Temptations, Chris Isaak and many more.
Born in 1954 in Witchita,Ka., Jack spent his childhood in Fresno,Ca., learning the banjo at age 12. Attending banjo and jazz festivals, Jack “paid his dues” by performing at pizza parlors, as a street musician, and at numerous Bay Area gigs. He currently has a new CD out called “Jack Convery and Friends” featuring Dave Marty and the Medicine San Francisco Ball Band, The Red Garter Band, and the Bluegrass Buddies. Jack performs at banjo and jazz festivals, city concerts, and at every home 49ers game.
